The Permanent Committee for Islaamic Research and Verdicts was asked about the giving of food by one who is unable to fast in Ramadhaan, such as old men, old women and the incurably sick.
The Permanent Committee responded: If a person is unable to fast in Ramadhaan because of old age, such as elderly men and women, or it is very difficult for them to fast, then they are allowed not to fast, but they have to feed one poor person for each day, giving half a saa'[1] of wheat, dates or rice etc, the same as he gives to his own family. The same applies to a sick person who is unable to fast or for whom it is very difficult to fast, and there is no hope of recovery for him, because Allaah says:
{Allaah burdens not a person beyond his scope}, soorah al-Baqarah, aayah 286
{…and [Allaah] has not laid upon you in religion any hardship}, soorah al-Hajj, aayah 78
{And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have [a choice either to fast or] to feed a Miskeen (poor and needy person) [for every day]}, soorah al-Baqarah, aayah 184

Shaykh Ibn Baaz was asked: What is the ruling regarding the one who did not make up the missed fasts of Ramadhaan until the arrival of the following Ramadhaan, whilst he did not have a[n Islaamically valid] reason? Is it sufficient for him to repent [to Allaah] in addition to making up [the missed fasts] or is he [also] required to make an expiation (kaffaarah)?
The Shaykh responded: He is required to repent to Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) and make up the [missed] fasts in addition to feeding a poor and needy person for every [missed] day, and that is the amount of half a saa'[1] from the staple diet of the land from dates, wheat, rice or other than them. And the amount is equivalent to one and a half kilograms, and thereafter, nothing further is required of him in making an expiation (kaffaarah). This is how a group of the Companions (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhum), amongst them was Ibn ‘Abbaas (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhumaa), had ruled.
If, however, he was excused due to illness or travel, or if a woman was excused due to pregnancy or breast feeding thereby causing her difficulty in fasting, then nothing is required of them except to make up the [missed] fasts.

Shaykh Ibn Baaz said: …the kaffaarah should be offered in the form of food, not cash, because this is what it says in the Qur.aan and Sunnah. What must be offered is half a saa’[1] of the local staple food, whether it be dates, wheat or something else. That is equivalent to approximately one-and-a-half kilograms. If you give them lunch or dinner, or give them clothes which are suitable for praying in – namely a thobe or a lower and upper garment (izaar and ridaa) – that is sufficient.

Shaykh Ibn Baaz was asked: I dispatched the Zakaatul-Fitr, specifically pertaining to myself, to my family so that they can discharge it in my country. Is this action correct?
The Shaykh responded: [This is] not a problem, [and] you shall be rewarded in shaa.-Allaah. Discharging it in your area is better, so that you discharge it to the needy in the area in which you reside, and this is better. However, if you dispatched it to your family to discharge it to the needy in your country then that is not a problem.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked: What is the correct opinion regarding the sacrifice [of ‘Eed al-Adh.haa]?
The Shaykh responded: That which is apparent to me is the sacrifice is not obligatory. However, it is a highly recommended Sunnah, and is [therefore] disliked for one who is able [to offer it] to abstain from doing so.

Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan was asked: Is it permissible to pay the price of [having] the [udh.hiyah] sacrifice [carried out], or is it better to [personally] undertake the [udh.hiyah] sacrifice and take some of [the meat]?
The Shaykh responded: It is better to sacrifice the udh.hiyah at home in the presence of his family, [locally] in his country – that is better, and if it is slaughtered [abroad on his behalf] here, then there is no harm [in doing so].

For multiple sacrifices, repeat order for each sacrifice.
